ARIAS-US Certified Arbitrator and Umpire; ARIAS-US Qualified Mediator.

Arbitrator, mediator and consultant to the insurance and reinsurance industry on issues relating to captives and rent-a-captives, workers' compensation, reinsurance contract wordings, litigation and arbitration management, liquidation and rehabilitation issues.

Andy Walsh is a trained attorney, arbitrator and mediator.  He has been involved in the insurance and reinsurance industry since 1982, serving both in a legal and business capacity for companies in the property/casualty and accident/health sectors of the industry.

Andy started in the insurance business at Colonial Penn Group in its law department, starting as an entry-level attorney in 1982, and rising to acting head of its property/casualty section by the time he left in 1987.  During his time there he first became involved in MGA-type programs, and was involved in closing down the company's special risk business in 1984-1987.

For 16 years, Andy served as the chief legal officer of the U.S. affiliates of Mutual Risk Management, Ltd., including Legion Insurance Company.  The MRM companies were a leader in captive and rent-a-captive insurance program management, and Andy served a key role in designing and structuring those programs.

In that role, he was also responsible for management of all litigation and arbitration involving the companies, and was successful in obtaining reinsurance recoveries involving hundreds of millions of dollars of claims.  It was in that capacity that Andy became involved in and committed to alternative dispute resolution processes.

In 2003, Andy started a full-time alternative dispute resolution practice devoted to insurance and reinsurance issues.  Since 2003, he has been appointed to serve as an arbitrator or umpire in over 90 matters, including reinsurance, MGA/agent/TPA and insured disputes.  In 2009, he returned to Legion Insurance Company (In Liquidation) to assist the Liquidator in closing the Estate.

He is a frequent speaker on alternative dispute resolution topics, having  spoken in such forums as Mealey's Reinsurance Summit, the CPCU Society, the American Conference Institute and the ARIAS-US annual meeting and its Intensive Arbitrator Training Workshop.
